Introduction
The following section will review the policy created to facilitate the best use of available computing resources while promoting an atmosphere of learning consistent with the stated purpose of Luther Rice College & Seminary.
Description of Library Computers
The library has desktop computers available for all faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students of Luther Rice College & Seminary. All desktop computers provide access to the Internet, library databases, the library's online catalog, Microsoft Office Suite and printing. Patrons with personal wireless laptops or other Internet-ready devices may access the Internet anywhere in the library. Library staff is available to provide basic help in the use of computers and software, wireless Internet connection, and answer questions about computer policy.
Time Limits on Usage
Computers are available on a first-come first-served basis. Computers are available during normal business hours of the library.
Acceptable Use
The following represents a general guide to acceptable use of Library computer workstations and electronic resources.
Accessing Blackboard, the library catalog, and library databases
Writing papers or preparing presentations for classes
Checking and writing emails
Use of web browsers to search the Internet for information
Library staff may at any time make a determination as to whether or not a particular use is or is not consistent with the purposes of the library’s policy. Staff may issue warnings and temporarily suspend use privileges if unacceptable use occurs.
Unacceptable Use
The following list characterizes unacceptable use. It is not intended to identify all unacceptable uses, but to indicate the types of uses that are clearly inconsistent with the purposes of the library’s computer policy. Such use is subject to consequences:
Behavior that is disruptive, abusive, or that obstructs others in their use of computer resources.
Attempts to fix or repair hardware and software problems. Deliberately altering any files or modifying the configuration of any library PC or peripheral.
Destruction, removal or damage of equipment.
Use of library computer resources by minors or non-authorized persons.
User Responsibilities
By using computer equipment and/or its resources, you are agreeing as a condition of use to accept personal responsibility for considerate, ethical, and responsible behavior in your use of the available resources. You are responsible:
To honor our Lord Jesus Christ in your computer usage.
For reading and complying with Luther Rice computing policies and regulations.
For using computer resources only for their intended applications.
For displaying your LUTHER RICE ID upon request, as evidence of your qualification to use computer resources.
For following the instructions and directives of library staff.
For saving all created and/or downloaded files to a personal flash drive and not leaving any on the hard drive.
For paying fees for all print jobs, and for avoiding excessive paper and toner waste. To minimize print charges, please use the print command once (each command will result in extra print jobs), read available help screens on printing, use the Print Preview function when available, and specify a range of pages to be printed. Please ask for assistance, if needed.
Consequences of Misuse
Misuse of the computer workstations and electronic resources may result in one or more of the following consequences:
